In episode 4 of TechWorks TV we have Dr Alastair McGibbon (CSA Catapult) and Gerry Thurgood (Thermco Systems) talking about what they see as the underlying components going into new technologies like road safety, carbon emissions and electrification. In addition to this they also focus on the semiconductor industry being at the forefront of technologies, from your toothbrush to your TV to Track and Trace to MRI scanners. The UK led the way in the semiconductor industry in years gone by and Alastair and Gerry talk about how the UK Government needs to invest in this vital sector to make sure we don’t get left behind when the rest of the world is investing in this fundamental industry.

What is TechWorks TV?

TechWorks releases a new series of programs that hosts interviews with industry leaders as they discuss the emerging trends and challenges within the Deep Tech Industry. Covering topics such as the Semiconductor Shortage, Autonomous Vehicles, Cyber Security and more.

The Deep Tech industry is a world that is constantly evolving and innovating, however, in recent times it has been forced to adapt and overcome challenges, particularly due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. TechWorks continuously work closely with its members and the wider community and are in a strong position to discuss the opportunities and challenges faced by industry.

TechWorks TV aims to stimulate discussion and debate on topics that industry leaders are passionate about. Episode 1 welcomes TechWorks Chairman, Sir Hossein Yassaie, SEMI Europe President, Laith Altimime and IC Resources Founder, Neil Dickins. The guests provide their views on the COVID-19 Pandemic and BREXIT from a UK and European perspective and how we can continue to work together going forward.

Gerry Thurgood
 
Gerry is CEO with Tetreon Technologies Ltd.

He has a strong technical background in leading edge technologies based around Thermal solutions plus a strong knowledge and understanding of Semiconductors, PV Solar, Mems /Nems and Nano structures and the Associated manufacturing equipment methods and solutions.

Gerry's specialities involve working with start up companies to meet commercial and Marketing goals and working with Multi Billion dollar companies developing corporate strategy through, either internal organic growth or M&A.

Dr Alastair McGibbon
 

Alastair has over 30 years’ experience in semiconductors and electronics, working in the UK, South East Asia and the US.

He has spent the last 15 years working across the UK supply chain in power electronics, helping to encourage collaboration and increase government awareness of the important of power electronics in systems.

He is a co-initiator of PowerelectronicsUK, co-author of the recent PowerelectronicsUK Green and White Papers and helped contribute to the APC/Automotive council roadmaps in Power Electronics. He is currently responsible for Power Electronics Business Development at the new Compound Semiconductor Applications Catapult, with the remit of helping the UK power electronics supply chain, with a strong emphasis on automotive, exploit the opportunities of wide bandgap semiconductors in systems applications.
