SUMMARY OF THE ROLE

Advanced Furnace Technology Ltd. are looking for an experienced CVD Technician to join our growing research team in Cambridge to support a new, Government funded R&D project. The remit is to develop and deposit ceramic thin films on graphite wafer substrates, for which you will be working closely with the Research Director and leader of the project. Together, you will ensure successful delivery of this project by developing and delivering transformative technologies from invention all the way through to product. Beyond that, you will work towards building a successful new company department from the ground up. This role represents a chance to enter an innovative company at the beginning of a new growth phase and thus grow with it. We are looking for someone hands-on, experienced, capable and bright who can take on all the responsibilities that come with the role.

Overall, the role will involve considerable technical responsibility for the CVD equipment and processes. A list of the main responsibilities follows below.

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Day-to-day running of the CVD equipment and deposition system
• General equipment maintenance and cleaning
• Carrying out equipment modifications with support from other technicians
• System testing, including heating, gas flow and pressure systems
• Recording and appraising results of the depositions
• Preparing samples for analysis, including cutting, polishing and mounting
• Maintaining stocks and spare parts
• Writing and maintaining SOPs
• Writing and maintaining a training manual
• Supporting the training of new technicians as the project scales up

SKILLS
• Advanced hands-on technical capabilities
• Prior experience running and maintaining CVD equipment
• Experience testing and bringing on-line new CVD equipment
• Knowledge and experience of chemical vapour deposition processes
• Ability to identify causes of equipment failure and carry out the repair process
• Sample preparation experience, desirably with graphite, including cutting, polishing and mounting
• Ability to work autonomously and organise own workload
