UKESF Skills Corner – May Edition

27th May 2021 | News

This month I wanted to share with you the outcome of study by the Engineering Professors’ Council that was published on 25th May, around inclusion*.

Using long term data on graduate earnings, they have concluded that “choosing to study Engineering in higher education really does increase labour market success, one of the drivers of social mobility.” And that earning outcomes in engineering are higher irrespective of background, indeed, that the salary ‘premium’ is highest for students entering HE with BTECs.

Their press release is here: MEDIA RELEASE: Studying Engineering gives ‘turbo boost’ to social mobility, reveals new EPC research .  The report  Layout 1 (epc.ac.uk) has some useful recommendations about the need for more ‘triple’ science in secondary education and the expansion of Foundation courses.

*The study only covers England.
