Graduate work-readiness in the Electronic sector

This month, I would like to consider graduates entering the Electronics sector. One of the prevailing themes in discussion about graduate employability is work-readiness; in particular the disconnect between what employers expect from candidates and what they find in their student / graduate hires.  For instance, surveys by the IET, report that 46% of graduates do not meet the ‘reasonable expectations’ of employers and articles like this one in Times Higher Education: Firms shift towards wanting ‘work-ready’ graduates | Times Higher Education (THE).

Therefore, we are going to undertake an investigation of work-readiness in the Electronics sector.  We want to explore this from both the employer and employed graduate perspectives and plan to conduct a survey of NMI ES members later in Q1.  However, in the meantime, we would welcome any thoughts or comments on this topic from TechWorks members.  Please contact [email protected].
